The seven Chakras are the main energy centres of the human body. Derived from the Sanskrit term cakra meaning “wheel”, the chakras are believed to be perpetually spinning disks of energy that correspond with major organs and nerve endings that directly or indirectly affect our spiritual and mental wellbeing.
At Maha Mala, our goal is not only to provide you with the best of authentic and ethically sourced devotional jewellery but also to acquaint you with your inner, spiritual self.
In today’s lesson on spiritual awakening, we will discuss the Throat Chakra, also known as Vishuddha.
The Throat Chakra: Vishuddha
The Vishuddha, or Throat Chakra, is located, as the name suggests, in the throat, and governs our creative expression and connection to the higher energies. Associated with your voice, mouth, tongue, and thyroid glands, the Vishuddha is the medium for connection and communication with the divine and controls matters related to the transmittal of consciousness.
Those experiencing an imbalance or block of energy in this chakra tend to exhibit behaviours of inauthentic expression, such as gossiping, speaking out of turn, dominating conversations and being unable to express their true emotions. People suffering from a blocked Throat Chakra also have trouble with accepting nourishment, both of the emotional and spiritual sense.
Associated with the colour blue, and with the sound, or musical element, the Throat Chakra is symbolic of our power of communication, and our internal, personal power that governs our attitude towards ourselves and others.
Often depicted as a 16-petaled lotus, to signify the 16 vowels of the Sanskrit language, the Vishuddha is a reminder that we are all born with the capacity for self-expression, and that how we express ourselves defines our journey as human beings, and in turn, leads to the act of divine transference of consciousness.
There are several yogic practices associated with the aligning of this chakra, the most prevalent being the fish pose, and Ujjayi and Bhramari Pranayama. Meditation with the associated gemstone of Aquamarine is also recommended.
